What is EFT tapping and how can it help you?

Welcome to the self-care series.

This blog is all about becoming your best self. This transformation doesn’t just happen overnight. It takes hard work and time.

I have to regularly invest in self-care in order to maintain a good standard of mental well-being. To be equipped to deal with the challenges life throws at me, I need to empty my stress bucket and be well-rested.

EFT tapping

Today, I want to talk to you about one of the therapies I have done in the past and the benefits of doing it.

My personal experience with the EFT technique

I discovered this technique when I was at a previous low point in my life and needed some help.

Finally, I wanted a technique that would help clear some of the negative emotions I was holding onto. My sessions were great. They uncovered so much about what had caused my anxiety issues, taking me way back to my late teens and my reaction to situations that caused me anxiety.

Following the sessions, I genuinely felt refreshed, like a weight had been lifted. Also exhausted because your body is processing a lot. These sessions helped me better understand what was causing my anxiety and how to fix it. It’s something I would absolutely recommend to anyone struggling.

What problems can be dealt with using this technique?

This is a holistic approach and can help to solve the following problems:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Phobias
  • Stress

A bit more information on the technique

Tapping fingers on specific acupuncture and acupressure points helps to release energy because you are focusing on meridian points where energy flows.

Negative emotions are thought to cause blockages in the body when it comes to the flow of energy. The focus of this technique is to clear blockages and release negative feelings.

Focusing on one emotion throughout the session, positive affirmations are used to assist emotional healing.

The Tapping Technique

  • Tap on the inner corner of your eyebrow, near the bridge of the nose.
  • Tap at the side of either or both eyes at the edge of your face.
  • Tap just under the eyes on the cheekbones on one or both sides.
  • Tap on the space between the bottom of the nose and the top lip.
  • Tap in the crease in the center of the chin.
  • Tap just under your collarbone, on one or both sides, just to either side of the sternum.
  • Tap on either or both sides of the rib cage, about four inches below the armpit.
  • Tap on the very top of the head with two fingers or a flat palm.

Working With a Tapping Practitioner

You can follow this technique alone and there are a number of videos online showing you how to do it. However, in order to understand tapping techniques, working with a qualified practitioner to help guide you through the process can be beneficial.

My therapist taught me to use EFT tapping to help with my cPTSD, and it’s working really well – the hardest part is motivating myself to do it even when I feel well, but I am noticing a marked improvement since using it.
